Shoppers Drug Mart Employee Describes Being in the Union
Friday, April 16th, 2010Long Time Shoppers Drug Mart Employee Speaks out About Project Infinity
Thursday, April 15th, 2010Fellow Shoppers Drug Mart Employees,
There has been a lot of talk across the Canada about the impact of the Infinity program.
Many employees have told me they haven’t been treated with respect. Their hours have been cut and raises have been eliminated in many stores without the union.
This is unfair. Shoppers is growing and expanding even in these economic times.
As many of you are aware, a number of Shoppers Drug Mart stores have joined UFCW 1518, the Union for Shoppers Drug Mart Workers.
At the union stores we kept the we positive aspects of Infinity but:
- There was no freeze in wage increases (see the recent wage increases at Store 222)
- There was not the same cutback to hours
- Negative aspects of the Infinity rollout were reduced because we had a voice to express our concerns
We continued to be the highest paid Shoppers employees with no impact to our pension, dental and medical benefits.
Several employees at stores without the union have asked me how to join so they can have these same benefits.
It’s easy: just contact the union office about signing a membership card.
These cards are confidential and management will never know if you join.
You can also join online.
If you have any questions about joining UFCW, the union for Shoppers Drug Mart, you can call the union office at 604-250-3704.
You can speak to me about what it’s like to be at a Shoppers with a union.
Sincerely,

Petition to End the Wage Freeze at BC Shoppers Drug Marts
Thursday, March 11th, 2010Whereas:
-
We’ve made Shoppers one of the most profitable corporations in Canada and sales were up last year
-
Shoppers CEO Jurgen Schreiber took in $4,377,672 during the same time we took a wage freeze as part of the Infinity program
-
It is unfair that Shoppers Drug Mart continues to cut hours and freeze wages at the stores in British Columbia without a union
I support the campaign to lift the wage freeze

It is unfair that Shoppers Drug Mart continues to cut hours and freeze wages at BC stores without a union.
Everyone should be treated with fairness and respect even if they work at a store without a union.
UFCW 1518 will continue in its effort to get the wage freeze lifted.
Contact us in confidence about forming a union at your store.

Union Wins Wage Increases for Shoppers Drug Mart Employees
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010Shoppers Drug Mart employees that joined UFCW at store 222 in Vancouver have voted to accept a new contract.
The contract includes
- Raises over the 3 year term of $1.53/hr for top rate Clerks, and increases of $2.13/hr for top rate Pharmacy Techs
- $250.00 signing bonus for members who work 32 hours per week or more ($125.00 for members who work less)
- Improved Health and Safety contract language
- Improved Leave of Absence contract language
“The settlement did not come easily,” said Ivan Limpright, President of UFCW 1518. “But this is a good contract,” said Limpright, “and has wages, benefits, and working conditions that show workers at non-union drugstores what’s possible when they join a union in BC.”
